You have reached the website of David Deakin

Welcome! I am a trombonist and aircooled Volkswagen fan who works in Information Technology and have created this site to reflect my interests and work.

Please follow the various links to find out about who I am. You can use the menu to the left of the screen to move around the site or return to this 'home' page at any time.

After a long period of inactivity, I have finally taken the plunge and plan to start giving this site a general overhaul to bring it up to date. Mostly the new bits at the moment are on the WeBLOG pages, where I am putting various pictures and videos captured using my latest gadget - a Motorola A830 mobile phone connected to 3's network - but I am also bringing the other pages up to date too.

I am a fan of the Linux Operating System and Open Source software, and am using to update this site (in no particular order): Mandrake Linux 9.1 (operating system), KDE (desktop enviroment or GUI for Linux/Unix), Mozilla Firebird (web browser), OpenOffice.org (office suite and HTML editing to rival Microsoft Office), GIMP (graphics manipulation rather like Adobe Photoshop), flPhoto (photo organiser and HTML thumbnail gallery creation).

This site is best when viewed with Mozilla Firebird!

(**Note**: if you are viewing using Internet Explorer for Windows then it's almost certain that you are not seeing many pages on the web as they were intended to be seen. For instance I expect that there is an ugly white background to the icons in the menu on the left. This is down to IE's broken PNG transparency support, which Microsoft promised would be fixed four years ago. Since Microsoft have indicated that they do not expect to release another stand alone version of IE (it will be an integral part of new versions of Windows) then your best bet is to download and install Mozilla. It has much better features anyway, including popup and advert blocking, tabbed browsing and better CSS/DHTML support)

This site developed by David Deakin. Icons and some images are taken from the Crystal KDE icon theme originally created by Everaldo and may be copied provided you comply with the LGPL license. Please don't steal the other contents without asking me first!
